Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Deep dark garnet with a purple cast and a ruby edge. Jammy blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, even a little dark cherry. It's a fruit bomb. Full and spicy aromas of black pepper, clove, dark roast and cardamom lightly perfumed with tarragon, pastry dough and vanilla. Big fruit, spice, very fresh, exotic and always inviting. Brandied cherries, raspberry, vanilla, toffee and baking spice. Vibrant and forward with a lifted acidity that's reminiscent of fresh berries. A soft juicy middle with a balance of bright fresh fruit and a base notes of bitter sweet chocolate. The finish is lively with a little tannin to add structure, the ability to age and pair with heavier food. Ripe berries, juicy middle and a warm dark roasted finish. 91% Zinfandel 9% Petite Sirah
Vineyard Notes
Dry Creek Valley Zinfandels are pure fruit. Ripe raspberry, brambly berry notes in the wine come from grapes that enjoy warm sunny days and cool lightly breezy evenings. You can almost set you watch by the 3 o'clock breeze that cools the day. Marine influences temper the heat of day and allow for flavor and color accumulation in fruit form Dry Creek. A cool spring with light rains at flowering set us up for a low yielding early season with moderate temperatures in August, Early heat in September with day time temperatures reaching 100 we welcomed the cool night and foggy mornings, fruit developed to full ripeness and developed generous flavors and color. Very expressive fruit a winemakers dream.
Winemaker Notes
My impression of this wine: Is a full bodied with a balance of bright fruit and dark spice and heft calling for rustic, peasant fare; grilled polenta and meat sauce, spaghettini with sugo calabrese, or chicken livers in a balsamic reduction with pancetta. A glass of good wine always makes me hungry. This is a wine of large proportions, but graceful enough to dance on your palate. Drinking well right now!
