Tasting Notes
100% Chardonnay

The hue of this wine is brilliantly clear straw with glimmers of golden light—a color that dramatically sets the stage for what is to come. The nose is similarly demonstrative, with tropical notes of guava, pineapple, bright nectarine, peach, green apple, and citrus delicately spiced with toasty oak. Lifted aromatics of orange blossoms and a hint of smoke add a savory character to this wine. It all comes together on the palate with well-defined, supremely balanced, and forward flavors of nectarine, peach, and lemon that are lifted by a lightly toasted and warm oak character that reveals itself as sweet vanilla, hazelnut, nutmeg, and smoky bacon. This wine is perfectly balanced with a delicate, zesty tangerine finish

Vineyard Notes
Each of Sonoma County’s most prestigious regions for growing Chardonnay offers a remarkably distinct fruit profile. We blended grapes from all four of these regions to make our 2012 Sonoma County Chardonnay, with 31% coming from Carneros, 31% from the Alexander Valley, 29% from the Russian River Valley, and 9% from Sonoma Coast. Grapes from the Sangiacomo vineyard in Carneros—Sonoma County’s coolest growing region—added brilliant acidity and bright, pure, mouthwatering flavors of green apple, tangerine, and lemon. Fruit from the Goldfields and Stiling vineyards of the Russian River Valley brought richness, elegance, and fruit flavors leaning toward the tropical, such as peach, apricot, and other stone fruits. In the Alexander Valley, where the days are warmer, Chardonnay from Reedy, Clark, and Hoot Owl Creek vineyards contributed full, ripe orchard fruit flavors of Red Delicious apple and pear followed by a generous mouthfeel.
Winemaker Notes
The majority of fruit for this Chardonnay went directly to the press in whole clusters to safeguard the pure fruit flavors. We then barrel fermented most of the wine, with 35% undergoing malolactic fermentation. After fermentation, we aged 85% of this Chardonnay for eight months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, 30% of which were new (20% French, 10% American).
Food Pairing Notes
Enjoy this 2012 SIMI Sonoma County Chardonnay by serving it with saffron cavatelli with rock shrimp and vanilla, Brussels sprout and apple salad drizzled with a Parmesan and herb vinaigrette, or pork loin with roasted peaches and almonds.

Nice fruit on the nose: Apricot, pineapple, pear. The same notes upon tasting with fruit I can't place. Maybe that's the guava. And a nice almost creme like note somewhere in there. Only problem I had was it being a tad acidic mid palate. However, it does balance at the end. A good bottle for a good price.
